Hurricane Gustav Approaches
YContrary to Hurricane Katrina, it appears that all parties at the federal and state levels have taken exhaustive proactive preparation - especially in Louisiana, where Governor Bobby Jindal is determined not to have a repeat of failures under the watch of his predecessor three years ago.
Even New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin is showing leadership and accountability this time. A majority of residents heeded warnings and left town for higher ground.
In a wise and solemn move, the Republican National Convention is suspending convention activities for Monday. John McCain promised to put "country first" - and he is making good on that promise (though I wonder if the Democrats would have done the same if there was a major hurricane on their watch last week).
All politics aside, my thoughts and prayers are with all Gulf Coasters who will be affected by Hurricane Gustav. Readers are encouraged to support the hurricane relief cause of their choice (DCT recommends Mercy Corps and The Salvation Army).
